A Beginning to a Story

The rain poured as they stood underneath the awning.
“Do you think it will stop soon?” The woman asked. They had been standing outside the convenience store long enough that a few store employees were starting to give them strange looks.
“I doubt it.” He replied his voice grave as he peered up at the dark gray sky. The clouds were in a cluster and the rain did not seem to want to stop.
“I wish we had an umbrella. I have always told you to pack one just in case.” It was a mistake coming to Tampa for a one-week vacation, she thought to herself. She preferred sunny weather to wet and gloomy and it had been raining for most of the days.
“I keep forgetting to. You know how messy the house is, I can barely find anything.” One glance at her not amused expression and he rethought what he was saying.
“I promise when we get back to Miami the first thing I’m going to do is put an umbrella in the car.” He looked at her as if he meant every word he had said.
“You always say that but you just don’t do it.” She crossed her arms, and stared out into the rain.
